Greetings. Welcome to my very first Blog as CEO of Landmark Academy. I plan to communicate monthly about information, issues and events that impact The Academy. I begin by offering my thanks to the Board and the Landmark team for all of their support as I have settled into my new role as CEO. I am very proud to be part of such an exceptional organization.
I am excited to announce an historic milestone for Landmark Academy. Just months prior to our having the first ever Landmark Academy senior class, The Academy has finalized the purchase of the Cross Current Church building. All 97,000 square feet sitting on 50 acres of land is the property of Landmark Academy effective January 22, 2010. We have been working on this project for over three years and the plans and efforts have finally come to fruition. It is a cause for great celebration!
The Landmark Academy campus is now comprised of two buildings a 42,000 square foot, single-story elementary building and a 97,000 square foot, two-story middle school/high school building on 66 acres of land. This summer we will begin renovations to the first floor of our new building to expand the number of classrooms, to add more to our technology infrastructure, and to add a new high school gymnasium for our new sports programs. It is very exciting.
To our parents who have entrusted their children to us, thank you very much. This has been a wonderful journey from our humble beginnings of 11 classrooms, 9 grades and 15 staff. For those of you who have been around for a while, you have come to expect new projects and innovations. It is part of who we are. The campus changes every few years. New faces join the team. New innovations are introduced to ensure that we are offering our students the best education possible.
With all of the changes that take place, it is nice to know that some things do not and will not change. Landmark Academy remains committed to fulfilling the promise of our mission statement. We were created to be different and those differences are embodied in our mission statement. We absolutely believe that every child is unique even in how they learn best. We know that a safe and nurturing environment is essential to learning. We believe that character counts and we want our students to be future community leaders who have a solid character. We are committed to academic excellence and developing students who have a love for learning for all of their lives.
The scenery changes, but the mission and the heart remain unchanged. We are different and we are making a difference in the lives of children who need what we have to offer. I am so pleased and humbled to be part of such a wonderful cause working with such a talented and committed team.
Stay tuned for regular updates. For my next blog, I will discuss the great results we are seeing with our reading and writing programs. For now, please join with us as we celebrate another year of growth and success.
JT Lyonette,
CEO
